Season 2 - Episode 2 "Night of Desirable Objects"

When seven people simply disappear in a small rural town, Fringe division is there to investigate. However, Olivia is still recovering from her crash, and is discovering new side effects of her trip to another dimension. Because of this, she is not at her best and almost shoots Peter in the head because of poor judgment. Broyles has taken notice of this and has warned the team to keep their eyes on her. As for the disappearances, the investigation leads the team to the home of a retired scientist, Hughes, who seems to know more than he is telling us. Unfortunately he kills himself before he can reveal anything about the case, but not before agent Jessup learns of his wife and kid dying twenty years ago in childbirth. After exhuming the bodies they discover that the kid has buried down and out of his casket, and is now what is attacking these people. This child has become this way because Hughes altered him in the womb to allow him to survive the doomed pregnancy due to a condition his wife had. After a violent showdown, the team emerges victorious, and Olivia seeks help from an unlikely source.

And where is the Observer. Well I have to say that he is really being a bad sport about where to find him in this episode, it took me about three tries to find him, and then I only found him by accident. In the wide shot of Hughes house just before Jessup finds the bible, you can see the very small outline of our friend looking at the house about the middle  of the shot and then far to the right. I have added a red box around the Observer because, as I have already said, he a pain to find.

Season 2 - Episode 1 "A New Day In An Old Town"

Fringe is back, and wastes no time in getting right back into the grove of the season. An agent from a separate dimension tries to stop the meeting that occurs between Olivia and who we presume to be William Bell. The attempt on Olivia's life causes her to lose her memories, but not her life, so the agent is once again tasked to kill her. To stop this from happening, Peter and Walter try to learn the identity of the agent, which turns out to be quite difficult because the agent turns out to have a machine which gives him the ability to shape shift. This is on top of the fact that Fringe division is being shut down due to unsatisfactory results, so anything that Peter or Walter want for their investigation is refused. This would have completely halted the attempt to aid Olivia if it were not for Junior FBI agent Amy Jessup who has taken a special interest in Fringe division. With her help, Charlie and Peter are able to corner the assassin. After Charlie supposedly kills the assassin, and Peter takes the shape shifting machine as a bribe to keep Fringe open. But as we see in the final scene of the show, the assassin is still alive, and has taken the appearance of Charlie.

And where is the Observer in this episode? Well thanks to his time off, he turns out to be quite hard to spot, so don't feel to bad if you missed him. If you watch carefully at the very beginning you can see him walking behind the car crash that the assassin was in. There is the picture below with a red box circling him, he is in the center of the picture at the bottom. Here is to another great season!

Another Small Note

As you can see, I have finished all the season 1 sightings, but our work isn't over yet. Sty tuned and watch for the observer in future episodes, and if you see him before I post about it, please comment on this post or the most recent one about where he is so I can post for everyone else who may be wanting to know where he is.

Thanks, it has been a blast! Lets hope for a great season 2!

Season 1 - Episode 20 "There Is More Than One Of Everything"

In the final episode of the first season of Fringe, Walter has gone missing with the Observer, and Nina Sharp has been shot by Robert Jones. Now suffering the full effects of teleporting, Jones is forced to speed up his plans to kill William Bell, and so he shoots Nina Sharp to get the fuel cell out of her robotic arm so that he can bridge the gap between our dimension and the one that Bell is currently hiding in. The Observer instructs Walter to search an old beach house he used to own for an item which will help stop Jones from accomplishing this goal. Peter joins his father in the hunt for the item, and together they discover that it is a means of closing the bridge between the dimensions. As Jones begins to cross the barriers between the two dimensions, Peter arrives with the device which closes the portal on Jones, leaving half of his body on either side. With the day saved again, Nina Sharp promises a meeting with Bell. However, after waiting an hour for the meeting to begin, Olivia leaves, angry at Nina for going back on her word. As she exits the elevator, she steps through a portal to the alternate dimension where Bell is hiding and finally gets her meeting. Walter visits a grave marked "Peter Bishop", which explains to the watcher that the Peter of this dimension died and Walter retrieved another one from another dimension to replace him. Which leaves the question, what about the alternate Walter? What happened to him?

Anyway, the Observer is again key in the plot of this story, so you can't miss him. First he is watching Walter look at Peter's grave. Then he is trying to remind Walter about what he needs to find in order to stop Jones, and also hints that, "There is more than one of everything." which we discover later to be a reference to Peter being not of THIS earth. Both pictures are below with the Observer in a red box, but you really shouldn't need it.

Season 1 - Episode 19 "The Road Not Taken"

When a victim of spontaneous human combustion appears, no one even hesitates in calling Fringe division. They come in and discover that the victim was a pyrokinetic, someone who can control fire with their mind. It is at this point that Olivia begins to get glimpses into another universe, which leads her to find a second pyrokinetic, and the man who is activating them, Harris. While attempting to apprehend Harris, he locks Olivia in with the second pyrokinetic who is about to explode. But with Olivia's help, she focuses on Harris and burns him alive. Later Olivia confronts Walter about the drug trials that he and Bell conducted, but he can't remember them.

And where is the Observer? Well if you can't find him then you should leave right now. He can be found at the end of the episode in Walter's lab, just before he and Walter walk out the front door. The picture is below with a red box around the Observer, but if you seriously did not see him, then you really should get glasses or something.

Season 1 - Episode 18 "Midnight"

A spinal fluid sucking vampire is loose in the city, and Fringe science is humanity's only hope. But as the mutilated remains of this killer's victims begin to appear with increased frequency, the team kicks it into overdrive to find this killer, but instead, they find a leading ZFT scientist. Luckily, the killer is his wife and for helping to create a cure he has promised Olivia answers. Unfortunately the creation of the cure kills the scientist, and all of the answers die with him. Or do they? Before he died, the scientist taped himself revealing all of ZFT's secrets that he knew, including the man who funds their operations, William Bell.

And where is the Observer in all of this? Well, even out favorite man with no hair to speak of and an expression that never changes, there is a limit to how long he can go without a good party. He is walking (I was really hoping he would be dancing, sigh) behind the "vampire's" first target in the club. If you missed him before here is a picture with him in a red box, like all of the other 17 times this has been done.

Season 1 - Episode 17 "Bad Dreams"

When Olivia begins to believe that she is killing people through her dreams, the team begins to worry about her. But when she begins to know specific details about the murders, Broyles orders a full investigation. Through this investigation they discover that Olivia's buddy in the Cortexiphan drug trials, Nick Lane, is sending her these messages through the dreams. He can't control his power and demands that Olivia kills him, before he causes any more harm to those around him. Olivia can't kill Nick, so he is put in a coma so that his power can't harm anyone until he can be cured. Later Walter reviews tapes of his past experiments and sees Olivia in one tape, with him and William Bell trying to calm her.

And where is the Observer in this episode? Well I would classify this as medium difficulty so you should have been able to see him if you were looking. And if you weren't, well, we will talk about this later. He is walking behind the team as they approach the building where Nick is thinking of jumping to his death. Again he is in the picture below in a red box. I spoon feed you guys way to much.

My personal least favorite episode until present date. Just in case you wanted to know.

Season 1 - Episode 16 "Unleashed"

An animal rights group of college students breaks into a testing facility, unleashing a genetically engineered monster on the world. Impregnating those it attacks with its stinger, the team is called in to capture it before more begin to appear. However, once Charlie is "knocked up", the team has twenty four hours before the grubs explode from Charlie's stomach. In the midst of all this excitement, Walter begins to realize the repercussions of his past work, and takes it on himself to capture the creature himself. With the clock still ticking, Olivia Walter and Peter descend into the sewers to confront one of their most dangerous assignments yet....

And where is the Observer in this episode? Well he is actually very cleverly hidden in this episode, but don't think that that makes it okay to just give up on trying to find him. He walks right behind the news reporter on the TV in Charlie's bedroom. He is once again in the picture below circled by a red box, my gift to you.

Season 1 - Episode 15 "Inner Child"

A child is found underground after surviving there for decades, and has with the ability to connect with people emotionally, especially agent Olivia Dunham. This turns out to be very useful to Olivia because the boy is able to give her clues to catch a killer from one of Olivia old cold cases. And just as Olivia begins to close in on the killer, the CIA tries to take the boy into their custody. Fearing for the boys safety, Olivia helps to spring him from the hospital and sends him to live with a family, and in return, the boy shows Olivia where she can catch her killer.

And where is the Observer? Well, if you didn't see him in this episode you should stop looking for him, period. When the boy is being taken to his new family, the Observer is watching from the sidewalk. The boy and him exchange looks of understanding, and the Observer walks away. Is the boy the next Observer? Or is they related in some way?

Season 1 - Episode 14 "Ability"

Jones is back, and seems to like playing games with Olivia. After recovering from the teleportation, he walks into the FBI headquarters and asks to speak to Olivia. However, Harris doesn't think that Jones should be allowed his request, that is until an FBI agent and a newspaper vendor have both died from a toxin which causes skin to grow over all openings on your body, suffocating the victims. Jones then tries to get Olivia to turn out some lights with her mind, trying to explain that she is a recruit for the coming war. When Olivia tries to trick Jones into believing that she has accomplished this impossible task, he sends her to disarm a bomb which will disperse the same toxin mentioned above. Unfortunately the only way to disarm the bomb is to complete the task, and with millions of lives at risk, Olivia must attempt the impossible...

And where is the Observer? Well he is very kind this episode, possibly to make up for the past two episodes. He is at the very beginning of the episode, when the newspaper vendor is infected with the toxin. He steps out of the way of the vendor, making him almost impossible to miss. He is circled in a red box in the picture below, which really isn't necessary except for a select few of you who might as well be blind. For whomever that last comment applies to, I suggest that you get a new hobby, this one just isn't working out.

Season 1 - Episode 13 "The Transformation"

Former acquaintances of John Scott begin to show up not looking quite a bit different than their file photos. This is probably due to the fact that they have been infected with an unique virus which transforms them into creatures from nightmares. When the first patient doesn't survive the transformation, the second "begins to remember" that the man who is creating these terrible bio-weapons is known only as Conrad, and that the drop for this particular virus is happening right now. On top of this both of the infected patients are carrying glass discs similar to the one found on the DEA officer in "The Ghost Network", which makes Olivia wonder if John himself has a disk in his hand. Broyles reveals to her that John wasn't buried and that Nina Sharp has been trying to retrieve the data from the disc in his palm.

And where is the Observer in the midst of all of this confusion? Well to everyone's great disappointment, he was again not technically in this episode. Yes, it is true that he was once again digitally added into this show, but this time he was added so far to the left of the shot, he didn't even appear on regular sized televisions. Don't worry, this has been fixed for the DVD release, so you can see him in the picture below, on the left side of the field at the beginning of the episode. I have included a red arrow to point him out if you miss the box.

Season 1 - Episode 12 "The No-Brainer"

A computer virus appears with the ability not only to infect a computer, but it can also liquefy the brain of anyone who looks at it. Cue Fringe division. However, with no apparent connection between the three victims of these attacks, and Harris causing problems at every turn, Olivia is nearly at the end of her rope. And to top it all, the killer has seen her face, and has begun to target those close to Olivia. Now with Ella in the cross hairs of the killer, it is a race against time to find the killer, before he gets a chance to get them...

And where is the Observer in this episode? Well most people were very pissed off at this episode since the Observer was technically not in this episode. By this I mean that the scene he was in was either cut or not filmed because of time restrictions, so he was digitally added after the filming, so it is okay if you missed him. When Olivia is racing to her apartment to save Ella, she swerves around a corner which the observer is standing on. The picture with the Observer circled with a red box is below, he is on the right.

A Small Note

I do apologize to whoever is reading this blog, for I have not been able to meet my deadline as of tonight because Fringe season two has begun and I am not finished season one yet. Fear not, as soon as I get time this weekend I hope to finish this thread up to the current date. Please follow this blog if you can so that I can get feedback on if I have found all of the instances of our friend.

Because we must all remember, "There is more than one of everything."

Season 1 - Episode 11 "Bound"

Olivia has been captured, but escapes after a few minutes of the show coming on. This is unfortunately very anti climatic for everyone who was watching before the break. But no matter, the team is called in to investigate an epidemiologist who has just been killed by a giant virus. Ironic? While trying to solve this before anyone else gets hurt, Olivia has to deal with the new overseer/boss of Fringe. Sanford Harris, the man Olivia had prosecuted for three accounts of sexual harassment is now telling Broyles what to do. Unfortunately for the team, he seems to be on a mission to shutdown Fringe, and he has the means to do so.....

And the Observer? Well, he has definitely stepped up his game since the break, but that hasn't stopped us from finding him. When Olivia pulls up outside Harvard to get Peter and Walter on their way to retrieve the vials Olivia stole, he is walking through the main gate seen in the picture. Admittedly he is tiny so don't feel bad at all if you missed him, and if you zoom in you can see that it is him. I have also added a red box around him and an arrow pointing him out just in case you can't find the box, like I said he is very small.

Season 1 - Episode 10 "Safe"

The equation from a few episodes earlier comes into play here, as we learn what it is used for. Mitchell Loeb is using it to pass through solid walls to rob safety deposit boxes paid for 20 years ago. When one of Mitchell's team is trapped inside the wall, the  team is called in to check it out. Through their investigation, their discover that the safety deposit boxes are Walters, and what is inside them is even more amazing. Meanwhile, Mr. Jones prepares for his escape by sending word to his comrades that he requires one thing upon his arrival, Special Agent Olivia Dunham......

And where is the Observer? Well, because this was the final Fringe episode before the break in the season, he was exceptionally hard to find. But not impossible. At the very beginning of the episode, when you are given a short glimpse of the computer screens before they are switched off. You can see him in the picture below, again highlighted with a red box.

Season 1 - Episode 9 "Dreamscape"

A rising employee of Massive Dynamic is attacked by killer butterflies, which disappear after they attack him. Cue Fringe science. After investigating and coming up empty handed, Olivia is shown a underground warehouse by none other than her dead partner, John Scott. Through this connection to John's memories, Olivia is able to track down another potential target. They are able to capture him before he is able to leave the country, but he is killed in the same way as the other employee when he offers information linking Massive Dynamic to other pattern events.

And our friend the Observer? He comes into our story right at the beginning, and is easy to see. At the beginning when the Massive employee exits the elevator, a friend begins to lead him to the conference room. At this point he can be seen on the wall behind them, with no other people around so it is easier to see him. Even so, I have highlighted him for your benefit, for those of you who can't decipher which of the three people he is (and for those of you who can't, you might want to find another way to spend your time because this just isn't working out. its not me, its you). Enjoy!

Season 1 - Episode 8 "The Equation"

In this episode we are shown a small boy who has recently lost his mother in a car accident. Afterwards he becomes obsessed with a piece of music which he is unable to complete. But this piece of music might be more than a beautiful song, because someone kidnaps him. The team is brought in on account of the manor in which he was taken. The father was shown four lights, green green green and then red, which we learn to be a very potent way of hypnotizing people (these lights can be seen in other episodes, if you look hard enough). As it turns out, many people have been abducted in this method, all experts in their field hell bent on solving an equation, one of which is in St. Claire's. Walter returns to question him and is forced to stay the night. He is released in the morning, but the warden makes it clear that Walter should remain. Because of the info obtained by Walter, the team saves the kid. However, the song is complete, which turns out to be very useful to Mitchell Loeb....

And where is the Observer? Well, he is difficult to spot in this episode but we have found him! When Peter calls Olivia from outside St. Claire's, he is beside the tree behind Olivia. He is facing the "Red Castle" Walter describes, almost like he is telling us where to look. Seems he is rewarding us for finding him. He is as usual in a red box, so check it out!

Season 1 - Episode 7 "In Which We Meet Mr. Jones"

Mitchell Loeb, and FBI agent and close personal friend to Broyles has a heart attack at FBI. But it is not your conventional heart attack, a plant like organism is clamping down on Loeb's heart, squeezing the life out of him. The team investigates and is led to a man in a german maximum security prison, a Mr. Jones. To receive the formula for and antidote, Olivia must arrange Mr. Jones to talk to man man who has recently died. Using Walter's crazy ideas, a stretch in the imagination, and a lot of homemade drugs, they manage to pull the operation off and Mr. Jones gets his answer in time to save Loeb's life. However, Jones was not the only one who wanted the answer.....

And where is the Observer throughout this ordeal? He is once again hiding in a large group of people, which makes him difficult to spot. However, it is not impossible. When Olivia is getting off the flight in Germany on her way to see Mr. Jones, you can see him waiting in the arrivals area with everyone else. This begs the question if he is following Olivia, and if so, why? Anyway, the picture is below, and the observer is once again in a red box for your benefit. A thank you would be nice.

Season 1 - Episode 6 "The Cure"

Patients of a rare and incurable disease are kidnapped and and then weeks later show up, confused, disoriented, and living bombs. They give off large amounts of radiation which quickly poisons the people close to the patient, and then causes their heads to explode. And with another patient missing, the team is called in to search for the answers. Their investigation leads to a competitor of, you guessed it, Massive Dynamic. This competitor has been doing experiments on patients for quite a while now, and seems to have a plan for what their new bombs are going to do.....

But where is our friend? He isn't to careful this time around, but he doesn't stick around for long so don't feel to bad if you missed him. When Olivia is talking to David Esterbrook in the hotel, the Observer walks behind them in two different shots, they are both below. I have once again shown him in a red box so that you can see him better, but once again you really shouldn't need it.

Season 1 - Episode 5 "Power Hungry"

When a man begins to set off power surges that cause an elevator to collapse and machines to go haywire, the team is once again called in. The man is clearly not in control of his abilities, but has the potential to become a potent weapon. For this reason, the team is not alone in their search for this man. However, with a little help from Walter, a tape from a boom box, and two dozen pigeons, the team might just get to him in time.

But where is the Observer? He isn't very obvious the first time, but if you miss him a second time then you should be ashamed. He is getting off the elevator that Megar is getting onto before the opening credits. He passes right by the camera so he is very hard to miss once, but don't worry if you do, that is what rewind settings are for. Again I have highlighted him for you with a red box, because that is how nice I am, but you really shouldn't need it.

Season 1 - Episode 4 "The Arrival"

Now this really is cause to celebrate. This episode is completely surrounding the Observer!

When a odd metal cylinder causes a crane to crash, the Fringe team is called in to investigate. However, this event is not unprecedented. One of Olivia's friends was the overseer of this exact same event years ago, and this time someone is after it. Walter, as directed by the Observer hides this object from everyone, including the team, but is it truly safe? All the while a strange man known only as "The Observer" is found to be watching the events of the pattern, but what connection does he have to these strange happenings?

In this episode, you have to be pretty stupid to miss the observer because he is part of the main plot. If you miss him you must be either blind or you just aren't paying attention. However, for those of you who still can't see him, I have added pictures with red boxes circling our best friend. I really spoil you guys way to much.

The Observer Sightings

1: In the diner at the beginning and then in front of the fallen crane. You can't miss him because he is the focus of almost every shot.

2: In the pictures that Olivia found him in. You again can't miss him because he is specifically pointed out.

3: When he meets Walter in the diner. Again you can't miss him because Walter is talking to him.

4: He has a fight with Peter and then shows off his powers. He can't be missed!

Season 1 - Episode 3 "The Ghost Network"

In the third episode of Fringe, the team discovers a bus that has been attacked by a pair of mysterious men. At the same time a man from Walter's past reappears, plagued by visions of horrible "accidents". But instead of accidents, these are all parts of the pattern, and the visions are something much more....

And our favorite question, where is the Observer? He is very hard to see in this episode so don't beat yourself up about it if you miss him the first few times. He is on the train with Olivia, while she is searching it for the partner of the FBI woman who was killed on the bus. You can see him first in the glass on the right of the train and then Olivia passes right beside him. Both of these are blurry at best and only last a second, which is why it is so hard. As usual, I have highlighted him with a red box, but in the second image you really shouldn't need it.

Season 1 - Episode 2 "The Same Old Story"

In the second episode of the Fringe series, the team investigates an infant child who was born, and then died of old age in the span of a few hours. This leads to a reopening of an unsolved murder case that Olivia and John had been investigating earlier that year. Based on the findings from that case, the killer is going to kill again, and the team must find him before he accomplishes that goal.

But where is the Observer? He is actually very easy to find in this episode, so if you don't find him then you may need the use of this site much more than others. At the very beginning right after the main title sequence, the team goes to examine the body of the infant/elderly man. As they pass the reception, the Observer is standing to their right (our left). The picture is below shows him and for your benefit, I have once again highlighted him with a red box.

Season 1 - Episode 1 "Pilot"

In the very first episode of the Fringe series, Olivia Dunham is investigating an international flight where it appears that all of the passenger's skin has just melted away. She begins to investigate on orders from Phillip Broyles, when her partner John Scott who is then badly wounded with the same compound that was used on the flight. She enlists the help of Dr. Walter Bishop and his son, Peter Bishop, to help discover a cure for this odd affliction.

But where is our good friend the observer? I must say that in this first episode, the observer is difficult to find. I give it a difficulty rating of medium, so don't feel to bad if you missed him. He is walking on the opposite sidewalk from Olivia when she gets out of a car outside of Massive Dynamic, about 55 minutes and 41 seconds through on the DVD if you want to check it out. The picture is below, the observer is on the right. I placed a red box for the people who really suck at games like "Where is Waldo?".

The Observer Sightings

As many of you all know, there is amazing new show called Fringe. If you have been keeping up with this show you may have noticed everyone's very bald friend, the Observer (see pic in sidebar). This man shows up in short little clips in each of the Fringe episodes so far, and it is what this blog is dedicated to, finding him in each of the episodes, both past and present. However, although I have never missed him in any episode so far, that doesn't mean that I will not miss him in the future. If you notice a time he appears in an episode and I miss him, please leave a comment for that episode so that I may update my findings.
